Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed Intermediate (Class 12) from a recognised board or institution. This is the mandatory educational requirement for direct recruitment to the post of Havaldar Instructor.

Preference (Adhimani Arhat): Additional preference will be given to candidates who have:

  • Served in the Provincial Army (Pradeshik Sena) for a minimum of two years, OR
  • Obtained the NCC ‘B’ Certificate, OR
  • Worked continuously in the Home Guard organisation for at least three years

PET-2025 Requirement: Only candidates who participated in the UPSSSC Preliminary Eligibility Test 2025 (PET-2025) and hold a valid scorecard issued by the commission are eligible to apply. Candidates with a zero, below-zero, or negative normalised score in PET-2025 will not be shortlisted for the main examination.

Age Limit:

  • Minimum Age: 18 years
  • Maximum Age: 40 years
  • Age relaxation applicable to reserved categories as per UP government norms
  • Home Guard volunteers with minimum 3 years of service will receive an additional 2-year age relaxation

How PET-2025 Decides Entry to the Main Exam

The shortlisting for the main written examination will be done on the basis of the normalised PET-2025 score. For each advertised post, candidates up to 15 times the number of vacancies (rounded to the nearest 2 decimal places of the normalised score) will be shortlisted for the main exam. Candidates with identical cut-off scores at the boundary will also be included.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

The written examination will consist of one question paper with 100 objective-type (MCQ) questions carrying 100 marks. Total time duration is 2 hours (120 minutes). There is negative marking of 25% (¼ mark) for each wrong answer.

Physical Standard Test (PST)

Candidates must meet the following physical standards:

Male Candidates (General/OBC/SC):

  • Height: Minimum 167.7 cm
  • Chest (without expansion): Minimum 78.8 cm
  • Chest (with expansion): Minimum 83.8 cm

Male Candidates (Hill Category):

  • Height: Minimum 162.6 cm

Male Candidates (ST):

  • Height: Minimum 160 cm

Female Candidates (General/OBC/SC):

  • Height: Minimum 152 cm

Female Candidates (Hill/ST):

  • Height: Minimum 147 cm

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

After clearing the written exam, candidates will be tested in a running race:
